Their latest creation, a pyrotechnic golf tee, is being praised as the most discreet golf prank ever devised—while also delivering real benefits to a golfer’s drive.
Initially intended exclusively as a prank, the TNTees Golf Tee surprised the team during market research when a significant number of golfers responded with statements like, "I really crushed that, and that was my best drive of the day." At least 50% of the time, users made positive comments about their drives. "We were initially baffled by the responses," Dan explains. "But as we delved deeper, we uncovered some possible explanations.
It's possible that TNTees reduce resistance and spin on your drive, which likely contributes to longer, straighter drives—similar to claims made by other 'low-resistance' golf tees.
But there’s also a psychological element—players anticipate the loud bang from the tee, shifting their focus from 'hit the ball' to 'swing through the tee and wait for the bang.' This anticipation could reduce tension, leading to a smoother, more fluid swing."
Another possibility we considered is that the anticipation of the bang encourages players to keep their head down through impact, a key factor in maintaining balance, control, and accuracy.
A third theory is that the TNTee's theatrics—spark, smoke, and bang—create the perception of a better shot, though this doesn’t entirely explain the reported improvements in accuracy.
